Ben Rhydding 0 Whitley Bay 1

BEN Rhydding had high hopes for their first Investec Conference North home game of the season, but the afternoon turned out to be a big disappointment for them.

They were in confident mood after a good performance in the opening 3-3 draw at Beeston, but the visitors started out strong with some good passages of play that really tested the home side.

Whitley Bay took the lead after 20 minutes and kept pressurising the home side who struggled to create chances of their own.

The second half wasn’t much better for the home side. It was thanks to player of the match Rachelle Le Bourden and her defensive tackling that Ben Rhydding were kept in the game.

With the home side finding themselves down to nine players, the game was getting away from them.

Coach Issy McDonald and the side will be doing their best to turn things around when they welcome newcomers Belper on Saturday (1.30).
