Ben Rhydding 2 York 1

BEN Rhydding’s men continued their league preparation with a triangular fixture against old rivals York and new challengers, Marton Furniss.

Rhydding came out the victors but still have work to do before their first North Premier League match on September 20.

It was a slow and unconvincing start against York who were allowed unchallenged receipt in too many areas.

Great vision from skipper Will Musgrave made the most of large gaps in the York midfield but Rhydding did not cash in.

Rhydding took the lead when Rob Ramsden upped the tempo and finished with a great reverse from a difficult angle.

An overload of York players into the circle saw a weak shot hit the post and rebound favourably for an unmarked York forward to score.

This was just the wake-up call Rhydding needed and they suddenly came to life. It was Danny Foster who scored the winner with a great deflection on the post.

AGAINST Marton, Rhydding made good connections but could not find the final pass and struggled to settle into any kind of rhythm.

Will Musgrave opened the scoring and the second goal came quickly from Robbie Studholme after good work by Matty Ramshaw.

Musgrave put a deadly pass through to the circle for Ramshaw to make it 3-0.

Marton’s keeper was sent off in the second half and further goals followed from Ramshaw, Musgrave (2), Ross McMillan and Studholme.
