Ben Rhydding 1 Loughborough University 3

Ben Rhydding’s former coach James Ross plotted their downfall in the Investec Women's Conference North on Saturday.

He is the new head coach of Loughborough and saw his team secure their first win.

Ben Rhydding, who have yet to record a league victory, looked to be riddled with nerves.

Lively Loughborough domin- ated most of the first half.

The home side showed glimpses of creative play through Jess Purvis and Sarah Bell in midfield. But they struggled to move the ball forward with any force.

In their attacking half Rhydding treated the ball like a hot potato and we're panicked into passing too quickly, and giving the ball away.

Some brave tackling from captain Rachelle Le Bourdon, Fran Holmes Brown and Helen Fisher frustrated the Loughborough attack.

Dutch keeper Jo Carpay put on a fine performance and kept the match goalless until the break.

Rhydding started the second half like they meant business.. New acquisition Tanisha Janzen linked up well with fellow defender Jo Taylor and created a number of quick attacks down the right flank.

Forwards Laura Smith and Kate Hesketh were quick to read the early passes forward and attacked with urgency.

But Rhydding failed to turn their half chances into goals.

Gradually the students Loughborough began to regain dominance again and they scored two quick goals.

Rhydding found it Idifficult to get back to the pace they normally play at and continued to make unforced errors.

Despite defending a string of penalty corners successfully, Rhydding conceded a third goal. With ten minutes left Rhydding did not give up. Eleanor Trafford released the ball into space for Kate Hesketh whose skills were too quick for her defender as she won a penalty corner.

Coach Issy MacDonald was pleased to see a well-practiced routine pay off as Rebecca Dallas slipped the ball to Hesketh who slotted it home.

Rhydding are away to Brooklands Poynton in Manchester on Saturday.
