Pool AFC 9
Addingham 2
Pool secured a place in the semi-finals of the Resource Print Solutions Wharfedale Challenge Cup with this nine goal romp against Addingham
The West Yorkshire Premier League side showed the gulf in divisions between them and their Harrogate League opponents.
A hat-trick for full-back Chris Thompson (all with his head) and a further hat-trick from veteran sharpshooter Shaun Joyce (including a penalty) made light work of their opposition.
Pool added further goals through Michael Jordan and Michael Light.
Pool did not want to underestimate the opposition and had constant reminders from manager Dennison about last year's departure from this cup to Harrogate League opposition Bramhope.
Pool found themselves 3-0 up at half- time but did have a scare as Addingham had a penalty but this was saved by Steve Thompson. Pool's dominance and superior fitness showed in the second-half but they did concede two sloppy goals late on.
Otley Town 2
Burley Trojans 1
Otley Town fought back from being a goal down to Burley Trojans, scored by Lee McGowan, to win 2-1.
Town overcame brave resistance to eventually defeat Trojans and take their place in the semi-finals. Within the first five minutes a terrible bobble for defender Jamie Simms allowed McGowan to break clear and chip Otley keeper James Davies.
This was a really well-taken goal but was to be the only shot Burley would have on the Otley goal over the remaining 85 minutes.
Not that Otley had it all their own way but they were by far the better side and when second-half goals came from Will Thorpe and Chris Alderson it was no more than they deserved.
Burley were not helped by having one of their better players Pete Sumner sent off mid-way through the second-half for persistent infringements.
Sunday Challenge Cup
In the second round of the W Machell and Sons Wharfedale Sunday Challenge Cup there was a shock for favourites Rawdon who went out 2-1 to great rivals Shipley Town, a reversal of last year's result in the final. Matthew Cooke and Micky Cleary netted for Town.
Yeadon Westfield went down 5-2 to local rivals FC Clothiers for whom scorers were Jordan Carlisle (2), Aidan Roberts, Carl Firth and Andrew Scratchard.
Horsforth Rangers romped to a 6-1 win over neighbours Horsforth St Margaret's. Rangers' goals came from Richard Lee (2), Nicholas Wood, Paul Walker and two own goals.
In a thrilling game new boys Rancell United overcame last year's semi-finalists Ventus United 5-3. The sides were locked in battle until Ventus appeared to lose heart when Rancell were credited with a goal that did not appear to go anywhere near the goalline.
Tom Dibb gave Rancell the lead before Ventus levelled through Ross Daly. Tom Wilkinson put Rancell ahead again at 2-1 and then the controversial Si Kirsima goal put Rancell 3-1 up.
Ventus pulled another goal back through Daly before Rancell substitute John Butcher struck twice to put the game out of reach. Ventus did net another through Stephen Mortimer but Rancell were well in control at this stage.
Horsforth Town went down 3-1 at home to Idle United for whom Lee Mathers, Chris White and Matthew Saunders netted.
Simon McDermott netted Town's consolation goal.
Ilkley Dynamo went out to a solitary goal netted by Hawkhill's Paul Roberts.
Baildon Trinity Athletic enjoyed a 6-1 win over Ringway Merlins with Simon Malyon netting twice. Other goals came from Andrew Padgett, Graham Carney Steve Barnett and Danny Milner with James Carter netting for Ringway.
Wheatley Ilkley went out 6-3 to visitors Angel FC of Baildon. Tom Higman, Terry Pearson and Phil Wagstaff netted for the Ilkley side with Nick Warden (2), Andrew Radosevic, Richard Scott, Chris Ball and Steve Noone scoring for Angel.
