THE Hawks made the short trip to Spofforth last Sunday and played the Druids in near-perfect cricket conditions.

Opting to bat first on a super pitch, the Hawks should have been a wicket down off the second ball of the day, as Tom Woodley was dropped by the Druids skipper at mid off.

Woodley made the most of his good fortune as he went on to smash 104 before retiring in the 20th over with 94 coming from boundaries as he hit 16 fours and five sixes.

Other significant contributions came from Sam Wilkinson (40), Tom Lester (31) and debut-making Rob Salerni (52) as the visitors racked up 290-6 in their 35 overs.

The best of the Druids bowling came from Mark Moorby who took 2-40 off five overs.

The hosts made a a good fist of chasing their target as they made 236-6 with John Henry making 487 and H Croft (63). For the Hawks veteran Pete Riley took 2-33 as the visitors triumphed by 54 runs.

This Saturday the Hawks visit Burton Salmon for a return match starting at 1.30pm.
