IF the opening weeks are anything to go by, we are in for something of a roller-coaster ride of a season with surprise results round any corner.

Who would have guessed that after three matches, defending champions Beckwithshaw would be hovering just above the bottom two in Division One having had one game cancelled and lost the other two?

Their latest defeat came at Burley where Nick Bulcock (4-25) and Sam Fox (3-28) restricted the visitors to 137 and even though Burley lost two quick wickets, Dan Revis (80) and Jason Wright (33) put on 86 for the third wicket to put their side on track for a five-wicket win.

Horsforth beat Beckwithshaw on the opening day of the season but since then have faltered, most recently going down by 91 runs to Pool.

A 7-26 spell by Ben Heritage saw Pool bowled out for 155 but Horsforth’s batting then fell apart against the attack of David Amos (6-25) and Matthew Naylor (4-39).

Otley started the campaign strongly, dropping just one point out of 40, but they came unstuck when Rawdon took just 31 overs to pass their 150 total.

Marcus Berryman (4-39) and George Myers with 54 in 55 balls were the home heroes.

That allowed North Leeds to take over top spot after they crushed Ilkley, dismissing them for just 59 in reply to the their 201-7.

Like Ilkley, Guiseley have also found the going tough so far and their 168 total in which James Thistlethwaite made 37 was never going to be enough against Bilton.

Waleed Akhtar hit 94 as Tong Park Esholt eased past Olicanian’s 162 total to maintain their 100 per cent start in Division Two.

Benjamin Steyn hit a lively half-century for Ben Rhydding, including four fours and five sixes, but found little support against the bowling of Alex Hentschke (4-41) and Ricky Palacio (4-30).

Addingham stumbled early in their reply but Ted Haggas, with 33 in 23 balls, steadied things and they too have won all their first three games.

A fourth-wicket stand of 175 between Marco Wyngard (92) and Tom Lester (58) plus 43 from Sam Wilkinson saw Hall Park race to 327-8.

But if Colton thought that meant runs were easy to come by, they were soon proved wrong as Mark McEneaney (5-17) and Wilkinson (4-3) skittled them out for 21.

Adeel Ashraf (3-46) and Mussawar Shah (4-50) helped restrict Kirkstall to 205 and Ashraf then top scored with 67 as Saltaire got home by four wickets.

Calverley look set for a long hard season, crashing to another heavy defeat by 166 runs against Collingham.

Steeton are also struggling, their 155 total, which owed much to tail-enders James Emmott (32) and Stephen Pearson (37no), comfortably passed by Leeds Modernians.

Green Lane made it three wins out of three in Division Three with a crushing defeat of new boys Shadwell.

Chris Spivey (4-11) and Azhar Mahmood (3-6) were far too good for the home side who crashed out for 34.

Menston accounted for the other newcomers, Akhtar Mahmood (5-44) and Nadeem Hanif (4-44) restricting Old Leodiensians to 112 before Mohamed Shamir (57) led the successful run chase.

Mark Portlock (86) top scored in Harden’s 200-7 but Ben Holderness (120) made sure Skipton got home by four wickets.

Joe Lawrence included seven fours and four sixes in an unbeaten 81 as Bolton Villas recovered from 11-3 to make 207-8. Louis Brown (5-65) and Sam Lawrence (3-56) then dismissed Bardsey for 180.

Thackley have still to register a win but they showed improved form against a strong New Rover side.

Muhammad Kurshid and Alan Cuff each scored 49 in Thackley’s 206-9 and Shane Marshall (5-59) helped keep Rover on the back foot.

An unbeaten 61 from No7 Kieran Thurston saw the home side clinch victory with 2.4 overs to spare.
