BURLEY are on course to lift the Aire-Wharfe League's Waddilove Cup for the fourth time in six years after beating Horsforth in a tense semi-final with one ball and two wickets to spare.

They will face Bilton, who pulled off a shock win over hot favourites and holders Otley.

For the second day in a row, Division Two leaders Horsforth weren’t at their best with the bat.

Opener Chris Gordon hit a half-century but, apart from brief stands with Ollie Hardaker (24) and Mark Gilliver (39), Burley's attack were on top.

Jason Wright picked up 3-34, with Nick Brook, Shane Etherington and James Frost each taking two wickets, and, despite a late flurry from Andy Robinson (22no), Horsforth were restricted to 181-9.

That looked a comfortable target when openers Tom Day (39) and Sami Rehman (44) put on 91 but when Gareth Lee trapped Day lbw, wickets started to tumble, with Matthew Wainwright (4-31) proving hard to play.

Harry Brook was run out on 31 and, going into Michael Lambert’s final over, Burley still needed six to win.

Gordon caught Kyme Tahirkheli off the second ball, but Etherington came in, hit a four and single and Sam Fox hit the penultimate ball to the boundary to book a place in the final.

Most had expected the other place would be filled by Otley, especially as they had already beaten rivals Bilton comfortably twice this season.

But Odge Davey hit 112 as Bilton recovered from 18-3 to 244-9 – a total Otley never looked like catching against the accuracy of Vic Craven (4-26) and Mustahsan Shah (3-18).

Only James Davies (51) put up meaningful resistance as the leaders were bowled out for 144.
