Division Two of the Aire-Wharfe League was rocked by a series of surprise results that mean all 12 clubs have a stake in either promotion or relegation.

Only nine points separate Rawdon at the top from Green Lane in seventh place, while Bolton Villas and North Leeds hover only 11 points above the bottom two, both of whom pulled off stunning wins.

Bardsey despatched Knaresborough in fine style while Calverley finally pulled off their first win of the season.

With solid contributions from Steve Shuttleworth (48) and Andrew Clarke (53), Bolton Villas set Calverley a target of 196-7.

Opener Julian Thornhill (93no) led the chase, teaming up with Jamie Chapman (47) to put on 78 for the third wicket before seeing out the job with Ali Long (21no).

Having climbed to the top of the table, Rawdon seemed to suffer from vertigo when chasing Adel’s 219-4.

Mark Shires (7-19) had them dizzy, tearing out the first seven wickets with only 34 runs on the board, and even though Chris Brown (44) and Josh Hobson (25) staged a defiant late rally with a ninth-wicket half-century stand, the leaders crashed to 95-run defeat.

That opened up the chance for Tong Park Esholt to go top if they could beat North Leeds, but they needed some solid batting from the middle order, especially Gareth Wilkinson (54) and Ross Todd (25no) just to take two points.

Openers Phil Atkinson (59) and Michael Abbott (51) put on 121 as Green Lane chased Thackley’s 196-8, and even though Andrew Stothart (4-16) swung the game towards the home side, Andrew Pickup (25no) made sure of the points for Lane.

Ilkley nipped in to take second place with five points at Colton.

Harry Neilsen (64), Jonathan Hughes (63) and Ian Chaplin (56) helped them to a season's best 277-6 before Andy Wheeler (5-25) broke the back of the Colton innings.

Having been involved in a tense tie last week, Guiseley made sure there was no such excitement this week, Alex Bell (52no) and Harrison Durkin (63no) clinching victory in 52 minutes after Tallan Wright (3-32) and Chris Wain (5-38) dismissed Steeton for 119 in Division One.

Richard Wear batted for 47 overs for an undefeated 70 to add two more points to Harden’s effort to escape relegation.

Earlier Burley set a target of 195-8, with Charlie Davy and Ed Brown hitting half-centuries, but those two dropped points only increased the odds against Burley overhauling leaders Beckwithshaw, who strolled past Otley’s 164, in which Matt O’Grady hit 60.

Ben Rhydding collapsed from 82-1 to 99-5, despite the efforts of Charlie Swallow (50) on their way to defeat at Bilton.

Division Three leaders Skipton made a gallant effort to chase down Woodhouse’s 283-4.

Arshad Latif (79) and Richard Nichols (54) led the chase, with Graham Summersgill (34) and Faisal Hussain (29no) weighing in, but in the end Skipton had to settle for two points.

That leaves them just two points ahead of Upper Wharfedale, who made short work of Alwoodley, while third-placed Horsforth were held to a draw by Olicanian.

Ed Broadley (4-51) and Chris Wheeler (4-83) restricted Horsforth to 204-9 in which Dylan Budge (66) and Andy Robinson (42no) were the main contributors.

Ian Thomas (73no) and Ben Brearley (36) put on 78 for Olicanian’s fourth wicket but they were still 30 runs short of victory at the close.

Addingham became the latest victims of resurgent New Rover, despite the efforts of Johnny Johnson, who hit 101 of their 151, while Rob Carlill (42) and William Brown (42no) led Hall Park’s successful chase of Silsden’s 174-9.

Faced with a formidable Illingworth total of 274-7, Menston managed to earn a draw largely thanks to a fine 91 from Dean Harvey.
