Division Two sides Rawdon and Thackley dominated the Waddilove Cup second round yesterday with giant-killing wins that proved surprisingly easy.

Openers James Milligan (44) and George Myers (67) gave Rawdon the perfect start at Pool with a century stand in the Aire-Wharfe League's premier knockout competition.

Joe Loorham then weighed in with 77, reaching his half-century in 29 balls, and put on 110 with Ryan Gladwin (65) as the visitors raced to 325-5 from their 45 overs.

Pool, who at the start of the weekend had been third in Division One, were never in the race and crashed out for 179.

Steeton started the weekend one place behind Pool but they too struggled, Chris Baines (64) top-scoring as they were bowled out for 184.

Thackley wiped them off in 28 overs for the loss of only two wickets thanks to Yasser Ali (64) and Majid Khan, who crashed 83 in 85 balls.

Colton became the third Division Two side in the quarter-finals when Green Lane, who had dominated when the sides met in the league on the previous day, fell 110 runs short of their 284-5 target.

Burley fought off a tough challenge from Ben Rhydding in a high-scoring match, with brothers Nick and David Brook and Mick Truswell scoring half-centuries in their 262-5.

The visitors responded in style through Lewis Bolton (42), Charlie Swallow (58) and Robbie Miller (48) and at 190-4 were in with a good chance.

But then Ed Brown (4-45) tore through the Rhydding middle order, and within six overs the last six wickets went down for the addition of only 41 runs.

Otley were given a fright when chasing Ilkley’s 164-9.

Looking comfortable they lost two wickets in three balls to go to 160-8 but managed to get home. James Wilcock was their hero, following up a 4-23 spell with a top score of 40.

Skipton are flying high in Division Three while Follifoot are floundering in the top flight but any hopes of a giant-killing disappeared when Alex Fox (5-23) restricted Skipton to 78, exactly half of which were scored by Keir Nelson. Follifoot eased home without loss.

Rawdon’s reward for their big win is a quarter-final home tie on 30 June against runaway Division One leaders Beckwithshaw.

Burley travel to holders Collingham and Otley are at Colton, while Thackley have a great chance to progress at home to struggling Follifoot.
