Veteran Dave Pennett and 20-year-old Aussie Tallan Wright combined to clinch Guiseley’s second Aire-Wharfe League win that leaves them top of Division One.

League tables don’t mean much in chilly April but with their first 100 per cent start for many years, just seeing their name at the top of the heap will give Alex Bell’s side a surge of confidence.

The win over Steeton wasn’t straightforward. With James Emmott (4-31) plugging away, Guiseley only managed 141 thanks to a third-wicket stand of 42 between Pennett and Wright, who each scored 24.

Steeton started their reply solidly, openers Ben Hillard (30) and John Akrigg (22) putting on 58. But then Pennett (4-29) and Wright (3-26) started to get among the wickets and Steeton stumbled to 100-5 and lost their remaining wickets for the addition of only 17 runs.

Ben Rhydding claimed their first win, overcoming Bilton by two wickets after restricting them to 145-7. The home reply stuttered to 7-4 but then Jason Wright (50) had solid stands with Charlie Swallow and Robbie Oldham, and Tom Pratt clinched the win with a soaring six.

Harden are finding life tough in the top flight and their 148 total, which included 67 from Neil Kettle, wasn’t enough at Burley, for whom David Brook hit a half century as they clinched a five-wicket win.

Stewart Smith (60no) and Paul Nicholson (31no) put on 60 to take Otley to 145-7 but Beckwithshaw comfortably passed that with seven wickets in hand.

Green Lane are top of Division Two after beating expected promotion rivals Thackley.

Mahir Ali (42no) top-scored in the visitors’ 156-8 but Lee Bramham (37) and Phil Atkinson (39) made sure Lane took all six points.

Rawdon managed to snatch defeat from what looked like being a quick victory when Adel’s No 11 Mark Shires hit 65 to take his side from 60-9 to 142. The home side were dismissed for 129 in reply.

A 6-46 spell from Sam Lawrence and 64 from opener Javed Ahmed saw Bolton Villas beat Calverley by seven wickets, while Ilkley could only manage 75 in reply to Colton’s 125.

New Rover smashed 333 runs on the opening day of the season but Ricky Palacio (5-3) and Richard Hey (3-12) had them reeling to 62 all out, setting up an eight-wicket win for Addingham.

That makes them one of only three Division Three sides with a perfect start to the campaign, including Skipton, who have already matched the number of wins they managed last year.

Their latest victims were Woodhouse, who were dismissed for 130 replying to 212-6, with Faisal Hussain taking 4-36.

The perfect trio is completed by Silsden, who had Matthew Shuttleworth (7-22) to thank for dismissing Hall Park for 96. Park lost five wickets with 14 on the board and only 49 from Denis Rock gave their score any respectability.

Silsden had a few nervous moments in the 80s but Nathan Bradbury (26no) saw them home.

Sam Boyden picked up 5-43 in Illingworth’s 170 but Menston struggled to 134-8 and had to settle for two points.

Horsforth bowled out Olicanian for 91 to clinch their first win of the season.
