Guiseley warned of threat of cup underdogs
Steve Kittrick has told his side to beware the underdog.
Guiseley go into Saturday’s FA Cup second-qualifying round tie at Bamber Bridge with memories still fresh in his mind about what happened last year.
“We went up to Ashington and got our fingers burnt,” remem-bered Kittrick.
The Lions could not make their three-division superiority count and they lost 1-0 at the Northern League club last October, Jamie Clarke hitting the winner to put them into the fourth qualifying round for the first time since 1974.
Bamber Bridge are three points and two places below Farsley in Evo-Stik Division One – two divisions below Guiseley – and Kittrick said: “We must get our attitude right.”
The Lions will be without England C international Stephen Brogan and 19-year-old Conor Branson.
Both have left the club, with Brogan joining Conference club Forest Green Rovers and Branson heading for a football scholarship in the United States.
Kittrick said: “We said we would let Stephen go if a full-time oppor-tunity came up, and one did.”
In, however, come striker Kevin Holsgrove from Colwyn Bay, while Zack Dale has been promoted from Guiseley’s Academy. Holsgrove is only 24 and Dale just 17.
