The annual JM Glendinning Group Ilkley Open tournament gets under way on Saturday.
With 30 events being played throughout the week from the blue riband men’s and ladies British Tour tournaments down to under-10 competitions.
The programme includes junior national standard events, veterans and handicap competitions.
The men’s and ladies British Tour tournaments feature top British players and are designed to compliment the international circuit, giving, up and coming players the chance to gain experience in their quest to become professional players as well as providing top level matches for those already on the tour. Players gain points from each competition with a leaderboard displaying the points gained with the top players at the end of the year being invited to a Masters event.
Local hero, Edward Allinson, 25, from Lincolnshire is the number one seed in the men’s tour event and has had some great results in similar events recently.
Natasha Hillyer, 24 from Warwickshire is the top seed in the ladies competition and won this event two years ago. She will be one to watch as she strives to get to the end of season masters event. There will be a grand finals day on the August 4 with play from 10am. The men’s British Tour final will commence at 1pm with the ladies final following on. Admission is free and matches can be watched either from the stand or from the cafe bar verandah which enjoys spectacular views over the Ilkley countryside and beyond.
The Ilkley Open brings to an end Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club’s three-week festival of tennis.
