Ilkley’s rugby players are preparing for their toughest test of the season.

They take on RFU National Intermediate Cup holders Stoke at Stacks Field on Saturday knowing that a place at Twickenham is at stake for the winners of the semi-final.

The Dalesmen have never played at the headquarters of English rugby and to achieve that goal they need to beat a Stoke side that has become used to success.

The Potteries club currently top Midland Two West/North having won all their 19 games.

Ilkley coach Rhys Morgan, who has a full squad at his disposal, isn’t letting talk of Twickenham cloud his team’s preparations.

He said: “I have seen Stoke play and it is clear they are a well-drilled side who have the confidence you associate with a successful outfit.

“It is important we concentrate on our plans, our systems and tactics because this will be a tough game.

“We have to be at our best and get our game spot on.”

Stand off Phil Howell, centre Morgan Collins, winger Jack Revell and back row forward Iain Mckenzie have have shrugged off the injuries which forced them to miss the 25-17 defeat at Scarborough.

The experienced Alistair Monks, Mark Kirkby and Nathan Bland are also available again as Ilkley bid for cup glory.

Morgan added: “Selection will not be easy but we need to make sure we make the right choices.

“Some players will inevitably be disappointed but we have to go with the right team and have the right players on the bench who can come on and make an impact.

“This is going to be a real test. Stoke will not be wanting to let go of the cup so we need to make sure we get our game heads on and play in the right areas of the pitch.”
