Skipper Stuart Vincent will have to play a bigger role than usual when Ilkley head to Scarborough for Saturday’s Yorkshire Division One clash.

Both coach Rhys Morgan and his assistant Neil Spence will miss the trip to the East Coast so Vincent will be in charge of team matters.

Morgan, who is accompanying his teenage sons Charles and Elliott on a trip to France with their club West Park, Leeds, has no doubts that Vincent will provide the guidance the team requires.

Morgan said: “Obviously it is not ideal that both myself and Neil are unavailable at the same time, but Vinny is an outstanding leader “As a coach there is only so much you can do to influence events on the pitch. You can prepare the team but once the match starts they are the decision makers.

“Vinny is used to doing that and he has experienced players like Ollie Renton and Iain McKenzie to help.”

Ilkley are likely to give a first team debut to young stand off Sam Clews as Phil Howell is carrying an injury.

Centre Morgan Collins is also expected to be ruled out by injury while wingers JH Johnson and Mark Kirkby and flankers Nathan Bland and Liam Copsey are unavailable.

Mark McDade and Callum Gillon will come into the reckoning for positions in the backs along with Pete Turner.

Morgan, who has one eye on next week’s National Intermediate Cup semi-final against Stoke, said: “We will be weighing up our options at selection tonight.

“There is an opportunity for players to come into the side and show what they can do.”

Morgan is planning to get a video of the game so that he can analyse the performance ahead of the Stoke game. “There are things I need to look at closely,” he said.
