The Shepherds Skyline Fell Race on Saturday, a Category BM race with 1150ft of ascent over 6.25 miles organised by Todmorden Harriers, proved a warm up for bonfire night. It was a fast, muddy course - with a steep descent off Stoodley Pike for the kamikaze descenders, immediately followed by a stiff climb back up the hill for the stout-legged competitors!
First prize was collected at the Shepherds Rest Inn by Ilkley runner Graham Pearce.

There was a good turnout of Harriers for the first of this season’s PECO Cross-Country races at Golden Acre Park on Sunday morning. Despite the recent rain, conditions under foot were pretty good, and although there were some muddy bits, there wasn’t too much slipping and sliding.
The course, which gently undulates, has a bit of something for everyone as it meanders through the park. As is usual for a cross-country race, the first quarter of a mile felt like a sprint as runners jockeyed for positions on the tight corners, but as the field stretched out the pace settled down to a more manageable/less painful level.
