THE 34th World Mountain Running Championships were held in the Andorran mountains and Ilkley Harriers' Euan Brennan helped Great Britain to a fantastic silver medal ahead of the Turkish team.

The Junior men's race started very fast despite a steep early climb and the Ugandans pushed hard and ran away with the three podium positions.

Although they comfortably won gold, Brennan helped Britain's juniors to stave off the Turks as he finished 29th individually in 43 minutes and four seconds.

Elsewhere, Nathan Edmondson made his mark as he convincingly won the Stainland Trail 10k, over a minute clear of the second-placed runner in 41:07.

There was a fantastic family result at the Three Shires Fell race. Harriers star Jack Wood set off at an incredible pace with only the five-times winner Ricky Lightfoot able to stay with him.

They battled hard for the lead and were still neck and neck with 150 meters to go. Wood just managed to out sprint Lightfoot at the last for an incredible win.

Meanwhile, Wood's sister Helen put in a brilliant performance. Having never run anywhere near the 20km distance before, she somehow finished as second lady in two hours, 48 minutes and 55 seconds.

In the Spent Greenway 10k, there were a pair of veteran successes. Sally Malir became VW50 Northern Champion in 44:01, Peter Shields secured the V70 Northern Champion crown in a time of 50:10.

Another V70 achieving a fine result was Ilkley's Geoff Howard, who raced in the Leeds Golden Mile at Leeds Beckett's Carnegie campus.

He came 84th out of 119 runners in six minutes and 30 seconds, while clubmate Steven Gott impressed, finishing 12th in 5:06.

The inaugural 5k Parkrun was held at Cliffe Castle, Keighley on Saturday, where Lucy Williamson was the first lady in 20:59.

Another notable Parkrun success was in Portrush, Northern Ireland, where Hilda Coulsey broke the FV65 course record by almost a minute in 26:05.

Elsewhere, Caroline Howe was second female at Harrogate in 22:00, while Jonathan Schneider and Alexander Wolfenden finished fourth and 10th for Ilkley at Skipton in 20:15 and 20:40 respectively.

Robert Cunningham finished 18th at Clapham Common in 18:51, and James Lee was 35th in Bradford with a time of 22:16.

In the Peak District, Alison Weston ran the Fat Boys Stanage Struggle in 58:26 to secure 140th place, while two Harriers decided to tackle an altogether longer challenge.

Roy Ruddle and Jamie Hutchinson ventured to Scotland for the 51km Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra. The poor weather conditions meant much of the race featured trail/valley running, with only 15km in the mountains.

The route was still tough though, but Ruddle and Hutchinson endeavoured to come 211th and 287th respectively, with times of 06:35:30 and 07:18:48.
