Guiseley AFC legend Steve Dickinson was in the England Veterans squad which completed a hat-trick of Seniors World Cup wins, after they defeated Scotland 4-0 in the 2018 final on Saturday.

The Lions' goalkeeping coach and veteran of over 500 games for the club, like many of the England squad, plays for Harrogate Veterans.

Steve, substitute 'keeper in the final, was not the only former Guiseley player in the squad, as winger Lee Elam also made a major impression on the tournament, which England won in 2016 and 2017 too.

He scored the winner in their opening game, also against Scotland, before netting a stunning diving header in a 4-0 victory over Taiwan. His clipped finish in the final saw him net his third goal of the week-long competition.

If two legends winning the World Cup was not enough, Guiseley had a third former player in the ranks. Former Lions striker Jason Price netted England's second in the final, tapping in at the back post after Elam's pass across the face of goal.

Despite Price and Elam coming to the fore with their second half goals, the final victory was not as emphatic as the scoreline suggests.

Scotland gave England a great game, playing with heart and conviction, and only one goal separated the teams at half-time, Mark Saunders' headed effort giving England a slender lead.

England found their rhythm in the second half, doubling their lead through Price, before a quick fire double by Elam and Steve Jones put the game out of reach for Scotland.

England reached the final after defeating Iran in the last four. Their 4-0 win in that game began with a fine left-footed strike by the prolific Barry Hayles, who put the finishing touches to a slick passing move.

Jones added a nerve-settling second just before the break before ex-Bradford City winger Peter Beagrie rattled home a stunning third goal. Substitute Rod Thornley completed the scoring late on.

Scotland secured a surprisingly emphatic 4-0 win over a talented Australian team in the other semi-final. The Socceroos side included former Guiseley striker Gavin Knight.
