ILKLEY Harriers' Jack Wood came out on top in the final race of the Bunny Run series at Penistone Hill, winning the Egg Stage in a time of three minutes and 23 seconds, before claiming the race outright for the third time with a time of 15.55.

The course was shrouded in mist, making it difficult to follow progress as 161 runners set off round the hill, but it did not affect the Harriers men as they claimed the team prize once again.

Malcolm Pickering was the first MV60 and this helped him to become the series winner of that age category. Bernadette Raven was the first GU17 and third lady on the night, another good achievement for the club.

Other excellent results for the Harriers saw Jack Cummings saw claim second overall in the event with a time of 16.18, while Istvan Jacso and Daniel Lane finished 11th and 13th respectively with times of 18.14 and 18.34.

Wood was in action later in the week as the British Athletics Hill and Fell Running Championships began with the Mourne Highline race in Northern Ireland. The race was run over 15km and it had a treacherous ascent of 1300m.

Wood continued his excellent week with a fantastic run, as he finished less than two minutes behind the leader in third place, with a time of 1hr 36mins and 43secs.

Alison Weston also excelled at the event, which was run in extremely misty conditions, as she finished second in the LV50 category, crossing the line after 2.31.20.

Jane Bryant was the first FV50 in the 10k race at the Lakeland Trails in Hawkshead on Saturday, completing the course in 1.09.04.

Jonathan Turner also performed well for the Harriers in the 17k race there, finishing 21st with a time of 1.21.59.

The Vale of York 10 road race saw a fine performance from Kate Archer, who continued her recent good form by being the second F35 across the line in a time of 1.06.54.

Val Kerr competed in her first triathlon at Skipton and could be proud of her efforts as she came home in a time of 1.40.30, enough to earn her 467th place.

Finally, in the popular 5k Parkruns, Rob Cunningham ran well in Stretford, coming eighth overall in a time of 18.15, while among the Harriers' female athletes, Helen Thurston impressed at Fountains Abbey, finishing 25th in 20.06.
