North Men's League: Ben Rhydding 0 City of York 1
THIS was a real wrench for the home side as they put in a Trojan performance of superb effort and endeavour but were unrewarded.
Ben Rhydding had the lion’s share of possession in the first 20 minutes and played some composed hockey but were impatient to put the last pass into the circle and found no end product.
Matty Bairstow came agonisingly close on several occasions but York held on and it was 0-0 at half-time.
York came out hard after the break and Rhydding showed why their penalty corner defence record is so good as they kept the visitors out repeatedly.
However, a counter-attack was too difficult to break down and York got a shot off to score the decisive goal. Rhydding tried hard to find an equaliser but when George Gamble’s deflection went over the bar, the last gasp had been taken.
