Huddersfield YM 1 Otley Town 5

NEW-LOOK Otley Town got their West Yorkshire League Division Two season off to a perfect start on Saturday, with a 5-1 away win.

Goals from Bobby Neesam and Chris Crellin had Town two up at the break, while a Ben McArdle double and another from Crellin ensured a win for the new management team.

Huddersfield, with their five-year plan to play Northern Counties East football, started well and tested the Otley defence.

However, Town settled into the game and went in at the break deservedly ahead, with the ten new signings on show gelling despite so much summer change.

They picked up where they left off for the second half, remaining solid at the back and a force going forward, Crellin's second the pick of the goals as he coolly finished with a neat volley.

Huddersfield pulled one back late on but victory belonged comfortably to Otley after a hectic summer following relegation.

It was the perfect result for the new management, with Chris Peachey and Daniel Sheard delighted to see the team come together in a competitive fixture after an encouraging summer.

Despite making more than 40 signings, Otley enjoyed wins over Ilkley Town and Hampswaite in preparation for the new campaign, before closing pre-season with a 7-2 victory against Oxenhope Recreation.

Having followed those results up with success on Saturday, Peachey and Sheard will hope to continue to build momentum on home soil when they entertain Knaresborough Celtic on Saturday.
