ADAM Lockwood has praised the response from his Guiseley players as they bounced back from Saturday’s 6-0 thrashing at Aldershot by earning a goalless draw against Tranmere.

The manager made five changes for the game and admitted that he was confronted with some tough decisions.

Lockwood said: “There were members of the squad who were in my starting line-up one minute and not in the match-day squad the next. People have knocks and we have different permutations where we can move people. It is hard to put that across to people, but I see us as a group rather than just a team.

“I want tough decision on who I bring into the squad and who I pick. That might change week on week depending on who I feel will hurt the opposition.

“Hopefully I get it right more than I get it wrong. I will get things wrong but I will also get things right. It is great the lads are buying into that.”

Reflecting on the game he added: “The performance tonight showed character, spirit and togetherness. There was real pressure on us.

“After Saturday’s 6-0 defeat there was so much disappointment on that bus home. Not only the lads that were there but some of the lads that were injured and at home were feeling it as well. That is what I want in the group.”

The Lions, who have taken just two points from their first four games, will be hoping to boost that tally on Saturday at home to Torquay who they have defeated at Nethermoor in each of the past two seasons.

One player who has done his chances of facing Torquay a world of good is 21-year-old goalkeeper Joe Green. He made his debut in place of Jonny Maxted against Tranmere and delighted his boss.

“He is a young lad with a great future ahead of him. That is what I want, people pushing people to improve standards and improve performances. For a young lad to come in for a game against one of the favourites to win the league, I thought he was outstanding.”

Lockwood will no doubt be hoping to end his side’s run of three games without a goal although he was happy with the performance of strikers Kayode Odejayi and Reece Thompson.
