DOUBLE Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee won’t be short of support when he makes his first World Triathlon Series appearance of the season in Leeds on Sunday.

The attraction of racing in front of his home fans has persuaded the Bramhope ace to break off from his Ironman challenges in a bid to repeat his win in last year’s race.

For his younger brother Jonny the race is critical to his hopes of fulfilling his season’s ambition to win the World Series for a second time.

After missing the races in Abu Dhabi and Gold Coast he could only finish 42nd place Yokohama after a crash on the cycling leg.

Every race counts now for points and he can’t afford another race mishap.

What better place than in front of a adoring home crowd to get his challenge back on track. A win for Jonny would be hugely popular.

Last year’s event was a huge success and will once again provided the competitors with a unique challenge.

Spain’s Fernando Alarza has earned the right to wear the golden number one this weekend and lead off the men’s start list. In all the first three WTS events of the season he has finished in the top four.
