Old Otliensians 36 Skipton 22

OLD Otliensians gave coach John Walker the prefect send off by winning the Yorkshire Silver Trophy at Bradford Salem's Shay Lane ground, last night.

The victory came hard on the heels of their Aire-Wharfe Cup win over Ilkley Seconds and was well deserved.

Otliensians got off to a flying start with a try from full back Alex Murphy in the opening minutes which was converted by Connor Bateman.

Skipton had barely recovered from the setback when centre Ollie Eaves went over for a try which Bateman again converted.

Stand-off Carl Patterson, the former Yarnbury player, opened Skipton’s account with a penalty, and the Yorkshire Four runners up followed up with a try from winger Josh Smith which Patterson converted.

Otliensians stretched their lead to 21-10 right on half-time when flanker Ollie Cooper scored his side’s third try which Bateman converted.

Smith’s second try gave Skipton renewed hope early in the second half, but Otliensians were in no mood to let them back into the game.

The speedy Bateman scored a fine individual try after catching his own kick ahead, and added a penalty.

Otliensians’ fifth and final try was scored by Josh Hannah with Bateman adding the conversion to take his points tally for the season to 254 – and that was despite missing seven weeks through injury.

Skipton kept battling away and were rewarded for their efforts when No8 Harry McEneaney scored a late pushover try which Patterson converted.
