Thackley u-17s 2 Ilkley Town u-17s 3

ILKLEY Town secured the Harrogate Junior League title by winning a last-game decider at Dennyfield.

With the teams equal on points it was always going to be a tense and competitive game as the teams fought it out for top spot.

Ilkley were first to breakthrough with a solo effort from striker, Alfie Warren who beat the Thackley offside trap and neatly slotted his shot beyond the keeper.

The opening goal appeared to lift Town and when Ben Thompson chased down the Thackley keeper and blocked his clearance, the ball fell to Jake Field who side-footed it home for a 2-0 lead.

Thackley responded in positive fashion and by half-time had levelled the scores.

The second half was close fought with both sides missing chances before Charlie Nixon beat his man and cut the ball back to Thompson who finished with a clean strike.

Thackley poured forward in a bid to salvage the game but the Ilkley defenders and goalkeeper Robbie Potts ensured that Town reversed last season's positions in a campaign in which they only dropped two points.
