FARSLEY Celtic Juniors, who are already Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division champions, now seem to be saving themselves for Wednesday's Terry Marflitt Trophy final against Farnley Sports at Horsfall Stadium.

Juniors only had five squad players who had taken part in their semi-final shoot-out victory last Wednesday involved in the league clash at home to Alwoodley.

The visitors have also had a heavy fixture schedule, playing twice a week for four weeks, but their confidence was sky high as they had climbed to fourth, and they were 2-0 up by the 26th minute.

Both sides then missed a penalty, with Alwoodley's failure meaning they had missed nine of their last 13 spot-kicks, a statistic that has been matched by Brentford.

The bundle of energy that is Louis Surtees reduced the arrears but Farsley were unable to break the Alwoodley defence down again.

Grangefield Old Boys, who have benefited from key players returning to the squad, beat visitors Stanningley Old Boys 4-2 to make it four wins out of five as they rose to sixth.

George Rutherford twice gave Stanningley the lead, only for it to be twice wiped out by Nick Smith, the second being a penalty.

From then on, Grangefield took control via midfield maestro Andy Kenyon, and second-half goals came from Grant Jackson and Kenyon as, Rutherford apart, Stanningley were below par.

In the Championship Division, unbeaten winners Drighlington defeated depleted Wortley 5-1.

The visitors only had 11 players, and they were 4-0 down at the break.

Championship top-scorer Joe Hudson got the consolation goal, but the Golden Boot winner had to play second fiddle to Sam Sowden (3) and Brett Thompson (2), who were second and fifth on the list.

One of Thompson's brace was an outstanding strike from distance.

In Division One, Gildersome Spurs Old Boys still needed to take a point from closest rivals Horsforth St Margaret's, and things looked good at half-time when they led 4-0 after efforts from leading scorer Mike Hall (2), Aidi McCormack and Steve Wales.

The second half was a different kettle of fish, however.

Horsforth threw caution to the wind and equalised through Callum Walker (2) and substitute Nico McDonald (2).

They cannot overtake Gildersome now but can leapfrog St Bede's, who have thee more points and are one goal better off than Spurs.

A win for Horsforth on Saturday at Huddersfield YMCA, who are tough opponents, would give St Margaret's, who have also scored more goals than St Bede's, promotion on goal difference, with St Bede's missing out.

In Division Three, there may have only been three goals at Norristhorpe, but Fairbank United's 2-1 victory was a classic match.

Fairbank were second and promoted, while Norristhorpe will drop a place to sixth if Leeds Medics & Dentists' Fourths defeat visitors Thornesians Reserves, who are bottom, on Saturday.

Substitute Faris Hussain opened the scoring for Fairbank with a far-post header but Norristhorpe's leading scorer Danny Mountain levelled before half-time.

Ibrahim Khan notched the winner for Fairbank, who also hit a post in a game in which both keepers played well.
