Ilkley Town 3 Brighouse Old Boys 0

GOALS from James Turland, Lee Spires and Adam Davey gave Ilkley a comfortable West Yorkshire League Premier Division win over their rock-bottom opponents at Ben Rhydding.

Ilkley took the game to Brighouse right from the start and had their first chance in the third minute.

Adam Fowler, who would run the Old Boy’s defence raged all match, beat the offside trap, and one on one with keeper Clayton Smith he dragged his shot wide of the post.

Just minutes later Ilkley captain Danny Bott floated a cross into the box, which just evaded the head of Turland. Davey was there to follow up, but fired his shot wide.

Fowler broke the offside trap once again, but shot straight into the hands of Smith.

Town finally took the lead in the 22nd minute. Tim Edney’s long throw into the box found Davey, who flicked the ball on to Turland who tapped in.

Davey should have doubled the lead just minutes later when he took the ball around Smith, but off balance his weak shot was cleared off the line.

Town didn’t have to wait long for the second goal to arrive. Smith spilled the ball after a ferocious strike from Dan Chadwick, but Spires reacted quickest to convert and make it 2-0.

After a brighter start to the second half by Brighouse, Davey turned the ball home from a corner to make it 3-0.

Brighouse almost opened their account in the 65th minute when James Hirst came rushing out of his goal to meet Matt Richardson, who saw his shot hit a post.

Old Boys would have hoped to cause more problems as the second half progressed, as Ilkley became increasingly frustrated with their weaker performance after the break.

But Town remained in control to keep a firm grip on the three points which will assist their bid to retain their Premier Division status.
