IT WAS definitely not a Good Friday for Guiseley as a defeat at relegation rivals Braintree Town dragged the Lions back into the battle to beat the drop from the Vanarama National League.

The Iron were on a run of four straight defeats but two second-half goals ended that run and, although the win didn’t lift them out of the bottom four, it cut the points gap between them and the Lions to just one.

That means that tomorrow's visit of title-chasing Tranmere Rovers to Nethermoor takes on huge significance with just nine points to play for.

Guiseley boss Adam Lockwood knows just how big the game is but feels that every game has the same pressure on it.

He said: “They are all big games and, to be honest, I can’t understand why anyone would differentiate this game from Friday’s game, and its one of my pet hates really.

“Everyone knows just how hard it is to pick points up in this league, and if you’re not right at any one time you won’t get anything out of it.

"It disappoints me when people disrespect other teams - because it’s Tranmere Rovers we should take it more seriously than Braintree?

“It’s a difficult place to go (Braintree) and they did a job on us - fair play to them for that.

"Names of different clubs mean nothing to me because all I do is focus on Guiseley. Every game that we take part in is as tough as any other.”

Micky Mellon’s Tranmere were held to a 2-2 home draw by promotion rivals Aldershot Town.

That result left the Wirral-based outfit four points behind leaders Lincoln City, having played one game more than Danny Cowley’s side.

Rovers, like Guiseley, have just three games left to chase their dream.

Tranmere’s is to land the title and the one automatic promotion place, while the Lions’ aim is to hold onto their status.

Guiseley only secured a second season in England’s fifth division on the last day of last term and they would settle for the same nail-biting tension this season if the outcome was the same.

It may not be that close as Lockwood’s men travel to mid-table Bromley and then host a Solihull Moors side who are just as much as in the equation as Guiseley on the last day of this campaign.

However, Lockwood knows that his side must perform better than they did on Friday.

Following that game, he said: “We’ve been done by two set-pieces and we pride ourselves on being organised, so we’re very disappointed.

“We did have chances earlier to take the lead but I said in the build up that we still had a lot of work to do.

"There is a long way to go and there are some tough games coming up but we’ll continue to do the right things and hopefully, at the end of the season we’ll be where we want to be.”
