GUISELEY’s bid to secure their place in the National League gathered pace with their impressive 2-1 win at Torquay.

But as he basked in the glow of a victory that was achieved after his side had been reduced to ten men, manager Adam Lockwood highlighted a growing problem – his side’s worsening disciplinary record.

Jake Lawlor’s sending off for two yellow cards was his second of the season and Guiseley’s seventh in all.

Five of the dismissals have come in the last 11 league games in which Guiseley have taken 22 points to haul themselves out of the bottom four.

Lawlor’s dismissal came just a week after fellow centre back Danny Lowe was dismissed for the second time against North Ferriby and is currently serving a four-match ban. Both centre backs will miss Saturday’s home game with sixth-placed Aldershot which means Lockwood will most likely be forced to pair fit-again Ash Palmer at the heart of the defence with Elliot Green.

Speaking after the game at Torquay Lockwood admitted: “This year we have lost too many players to suspension and it is something we have to really look at.

“Whether they are all justified is a different question, but it is something we have to look at.

“It makes things very, very tough when we go down to ten men.”

Strikers Michael Rankine and Adam Boyes and midfieldman Will Hatfield are the other Lions players to receive red cards this season.

Young winger Luke Porritt has joined Evo-Stik Premier Division side Ossett Albion on one-month’s loan.
