ILKLEY Lawn Tennis & Squash Club's AEGON Ilkley Trophy has won a category in the Provident Bradford Sports Awards.

The ATP Challenger and ITF Women's Futures tournament won the 2016 Sporting Highlight section last Thursday at the Bradford Hotel, defeating the Bradford Dragonboat Festival and the Bradford City Runs.

The pre-Wimbledon tournament at Ilkley again showed off the refurbished £2.5 million clubhouse, and sell-out crowds watched Taiwan's Yen-Hsun Lu and Russia's Evgeniya Rodina win the respective men's and women's singles.

ILTSC's general manager Charlie Maunder, who accepted the award from awards sponsors Provident, said: "It is fantastic for us and for tennis that we have won it.

"It is a not only a reward for the work that the volunteers and club members have put in over the past two or three years, but for the past ten years that we can host such a high-calibre event involving world-class players."

The AEGON Ilkley Trophy was also nominated at the inaugural Provident Bradford Sports Awards last year, but was beaten by Bradford City's 4-2 FA Cup victory at Chelsea.
