GUISELEY make the long trip to Devon determined to take another step towards National League safety.

Tuesday night’s 1-0 home win over Barrow took them three points ahead of Saturday’s hosts Torquay who occupy the fourth relegation spot.

Manager Adam Lockwood will be hoping his side show the mental toughness which enabled them to bounce back from last Saturday’s shock 2-1 home defeat by struggling North Ferriby.

He admitted: “After Saturday’s performance I had a few sleepless nights wondering whether the changing room could react to it and take a little bit of pressure because of the expectation.

“Thankfully we have shown against Barrow the side of us that we can hang in there and get results.”

Lockwood says the battling spirit shown against Barrow was the characteristic which convinced him that Guiseley could avoid the drop when they were rock bottom.

“That is why when I took over the job. I believed we stood a chance of getting out of the dilemma we were in,” he said. “We have given ourselves a big chance. We have a lot of work to do and a lot of big games coming up.”

Guiseley will again be without their skipper Danny Lowe against Torquay as he is serving a four-match ban after his sending off against North Ferriby United.

Young central defender Elliot Green, the Lions’ recent signing from Vancouver Whitecaps, deputised ably against Barrow and is expected to continue alongside Jake Lawlor at the heart of the defence as the Lions look for more valuable points.
