THIS Sunday sees the fourth Ilkley Cycling Club Cyclo-cross event at the Ilkley Lido.

Last weekend's National Championships at Peel Park illustrated what a great sporting spectacle it is and the Ilkley event is aimed at a wide range of standards from regular competitors to those wanting to get into the sport.

It starts with Go-Cross Children’s races in the morning with the first race for the under-8s at 10.30am which is open to all children so long as they can pedal ride on two wheels.

This is followed by the under-10s at 10.45am, under-12s at 11.15am and the under-14 and under-16 races at 11.45am.

The afternoon action starts from 12.45pm with the junior men, senior men and the V40-49 category, followed by the women’s, V45 and V50 races at 2pm.

The Go Cross Novice race follows at 2.01pm and this is are chance to give it a go. It is enter on the day and British Cycling licences are not required for the Go-Cross children’s or the Novice races. Day licences are available for other races at a small additional cost.

The event can be ridden on any bike with off-road tyres, and while most do it on a cyclocross specific bike, road bikes with off road tyres and mountain bikes can also be used so long as they don’t have any unnecessary equipment fitted.

The hub of the competition will be the Olicana Cricket Club pavilion and All Saints Pre-School Nursery, with parking in the Lido Car Park.

The organisers have pointed out that the area will be busy so they are encouraging people to walk or ride down on their bikes.
