West Yorkshire League Premier Division

Ilkley Town 0 Carlton Athletic 4

ILKLEY’S recent run good of form came to an end as they were beaten by the Premier Division leaders at Ben Rhydding.

Carlton began the better of the two teams, winning the second balls and playing some attractive football.

They almost went ahead after 11 minutes when, the ball was played to striker James Kirson whose effort was comfortably saved by Ilkley keeper James Hirst. There was another scare for Ilkley after 15 minutes. Carlton winger Daniel Chadwick whipped the ball into the box and there was Kirson with a free header which ended up on the top of the net.

Ilkley had their best chance after 28 minutes a long-range effort from Dan Chadwick was saved spectacularly by Carlton goalkeeper Jonathan Gardner.

There was a glorious chance for Ilkley to go in front after 34 minutes. Richard Schofield put a brilliant ball into the box but striker Adam Fowler missed from two yards.

Carlton begin the second half strongly, centre back David Pickering had a long range effort saved by Hirst and Scott Burns, shot just went wide of the far post.

Carlton broke the deadlock after 62 minutes when a corner from the right found its way to Sam Graham who side-footed it past Hirst.

Ilkley thought Fowler was fouled in the build up to Carlton's second goal in the 67th minute by Kirson but the referee ignored their claims

Carlton then made it 3-0 after 74 minutes when Tom Griffiths latched onto a Reece Fennell through ball and scored with a shot which hit the inside of the post and flew into the back of the net.

Carlton rounded off the scoring in the final minute when Fennell’s delightful finish somehow found its way past Hirst.
