Delighted boss Adam Lockwood will demand more of the same from his players when they host relegation rivals Southport at Nethermoor on Saturday.

The Lions recorded their first win of the season on Tuesday night after an incredible 6-1 home demolition of York City in a match that was halted for an hour because of floodlight failure.

Lockwood’s men were 4-1 up when the lights went out around four minutes before half-time and their dominance continued after the restart.

Debutants Jermaine Hylton and Jake Cassidy formed a deadly strike partnership up front as both men got on the scoresheet in a thrilling attacking display.

Lockwood has again tapped into his Oldham connections to secure Cassidy on a three-month loan while Hylton is also on loan from Swindon with a view to a permanent move to the Lions.

Lockwood said: “I wanted to improve the squad and we have done that with the acquisition of Jermaine and Jake, who both did really well.

“Michael Rankine and Adam Boyes came on for the last fifteen minutes but they worked as a partnership and kept the ball in the right areas.

“I've had some very hard decisions to make on selection and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

“But the stronger the squad, the better it is for me.

“I'm obviously delighted and I've said from day one that I know that this group are capable of producing those kind of performances.

“That's frustrated me more than anything.

“But Tuesday night summed up the way the season has been so far - with the floodlights going out and then getting the result.

“It was one of the most stressful and frustrating times of my career and I'd like to thank everyone who help to get the lights going again.

“It would have been a shame if the game had been abandoned.

“What pleased me more was the fact the lads expected that to come.

“I did give them a pat on the back but not too much because I'm disappointed we haven't been performing like that on a consistent basis.”

Guiseley will climb off the foot of the table if they beat second-bottom Southport at Nethermoor.

Lockwood added: “If we maintain those standards then we will give ourselves a chance in every game we are in.

“I'm delighted but in my eyes it's where we should be anyway with the players we've got.

“If those guys don't kick on at the weekend then there will be other lads waiting to step in.

“We need to keep batting on and trying to improve the squad if we can do.

“The attitude and application of the guys has been outstanding and I thank them for that. But we need to build on Tuesday’s performance and result against Southport now.”

Meanwhile, winger Adam Smith has left Nethermoor.
