Solihull Moors 3, Guiseley 2

A FIFTH straight defeat leaves Guiseley rooted to the foot of the Vanarama National League table and still seeking their first point of the season.

Solihull Moors hauled themselves into the top five as this was their third victory of the campaign.

Lions boss Mark Bower guided his side to safety on the final day of last season but he is feeling the heat again just a few months later.

"It doesn't matter how well or how badly you have played because all that counts at the end of the day is the league table," said Bower.

"The weather was bad, so the conditions at Solihull were difficult, and that was reflected in the quality of the first hour. It was poor but we got in front at 2-1 and then I thought we over-committed.

"It was almost like we were 2-1 down and chasing the game because there were bodies going forward and that cost us.

"The three goals we conceded were all from crosses into our box and we've got enough people at the back who should be able to deal with those kind of balls.

"To win games we would have to have scored three at Eastleigh, four against Wrexham, three against Dagenham & Redbridge, four against North Ferriby and another four in this game. We can't expect to do that."

The Moors snatched victory six minutes from time through substitute Harry White but Andy Brown was the home side's match-winner, netting twice and weighing in with an assist for the final goal.

Brown headed Solihull in front just before the quarter-hour mark when a shot came off a post and the ball was crossed back into the danger zone.

Guiseley were level at the break after Will Hatfield played a one-two with Rob Atkinson before netting a spectacular shot off the underside of the bar.

Bower sent Adam Boyes on from the bench in the 71st minute and he latched on to a long through-ball five minutes later.

But from that position they slumped to defeat as Brown headed in a cross from open play to claim his second before heading down for White to fire past Lions keeper Tim Deasy.

Bower said: "No-one is battering us and we can't blame our defeats on luck or anything like that.

"We are killing ourselves with what we're doing and we've lost five on the bounce. I'm under no illusions. It's not good enough."
