GUISELEY boss Mark Bower will swing the axe when his side – still without a point – head to Solihull Moors on Saturday aiming to stop the rot.

The Lions lie bottom of the Vanarama National League after Tuesday’s 3-2 loss at North Ferriby United marked a fourth straight defeat of the season.

Bower could not hide his frustration at the manner of his side’s defending and will look to ring the changes.

He said: “We've been severely punished for lapses in concentration and not doing our jobs properly.

“We can't keep making the same mistakes and need to get back at it.

“We have got to look to make some changes and just shake it up a little bit.

“As well or as badly as we play, if you concede goals like that then you have no chance.”

Guiseley had fought back from 2-0 down to level but in the 88th minute defender Marcus Williams' attempted clearance rebounded off Simon Russell and beyond Lions goalkeeper Dan Atkinson.

North Ferriby took advantage of some poor defending to score through Ryan Kendall and Danny Emerton.

Guiseley hit back with Oli Johnson finding the net either side of half-time but North Ferriby, promoted via the National League North play-offs in May, snatched all three points late on.

Bower added: “No matter how well or poorly you play, you cannot concede the kind of goals we gave away in the first 20 minutes.

“We were so poor and weak and were lacking in any kind of responsibility and willingness to go and clear our box.

“When you concede such poor goals, then you've got no chance whatever level you are playing at.

“We are beating ourselves at the minute and giving ourselves mountains to climb.

“In the first 20 minutes, we are 2-0 down and the next 68 minutes we completely dominate and have chance after chance after chance, so we should be 5-2 up.

“Just to rub it in, as well as the self-inflicted stuff, we are the victims of an absolute freak goal, which just sums up where we are at the moment.

“It should never have got to that point – that late goal should have been a consolation for them with the amount of play we had.

“But it wasn't and it isn't. We should have been going home with at least a point but instead it's nothing.

“It's very disappointing and we have obviously got to get ourselves out of this rut that we are in.

“We've just got to stop conceding goals like we are conceding. We can't feel sorry for ourselves and have to get it out of our system in training on Thursday and go again at Solihull on Saturday.”
