GUISELEY will hope they have the edge over Wrexham for a second consecutive season as they go into tonight’s National League clash looking for their first point of the new campaign.

The Lions beat the Welsh outfit 3-1 in the corresponding fixture last season. That win back in April saw Adam Boyes bag a brace and Oli Johnson also find the target.

Boyes was also on the scoresheet in the 3-3 draw in the reverse fixture as Mark Bower’s men banked four points at the expense of Wrexham.

Gary Mills’ side battled out a goalless draw with Dover Athletic in their opening home fixture at the weekend while Bower’s men were slipping to a narrow defeat at Easleigh.

New skipper Michael Rankine netted the Lions’ goal in the 2-1 defeat and fellow close season signing Ashley Palmer almost earned Guiseley a point but his injury time header was superbly saved.

There will be FA Cup action at the Angel Telecom Stadium tonight as Silsden host Bridlington Town following a 1-1 draw on the east coast. Luke Richardson’s second half equaliser secured the Cobbydalers home advantage in tonight’s extra-preliminary round replay.

The winners will travel to Guisborough Town, who knocked Liversedge out on Saturday, in the preliminary round on Saturday August 20.

Albion Sports were due to travel to Rainworth MW in the Toolstation Northern Counties East Premier Division but that has been shelved because Kulwinder Sandhu’s men have an FA Cup replay tomorrow.

Albion’s neighbouring rivals Thackley do have a league game as they host Clipstone in their opening Premier Division fixture of the season. The Dennyboys’ FA Cup journey was a short one as they lost their extra-preliminary round tie 2-0 at Newcastle Benfield.
