TONG Park Esholt will create a piece of Aire-Wharfe League history on Sunday when they become the first Division Three team to play in a Waddilove Cup final.

The task facing them couldn't be tougher as their opponents at Pool are league champions Otley.

Tong Park Esholt have overcome enormous hurdles just to play this season after the Christmas floods wrecked their ground.

But the cup has provided plenty of cheer. They have already seen off two top flight teams – Rawdon and North Leeds – to reach the final.

And they have potential match winners, not least the league’s most successful bowler Mahir Ali.

Otley's strength's are well known. Captain James Davies has at his disposal players of the calibre of prolific opening batsman Jamie Pickering and all-rounder Chris Thompson.

The odds are stacked against Tong Park Esholt but the spirit they have shown in conquering adversity has served them well and Otley will be fully aware of the danger they pose to their ambitions for a league and cup double.
