Pre-season friendly: Farsley Celtic 1 Leeds United Under-21s 0

AN early goal from Jordan Deacey was the difference between a strong Farsley Celtic side and a young Leeds United squad in last night’s friendly at Throstle Nest.

The Championship club sent their under-21 side, but had a couple of trialists on the bench.

They gave the Celts a stiff test with their professional Academy fitness levels but the Evo-Stik Division One North outfit edged the contest.

Deacey pounced on a seventh-minute defensive error to net the game’s only goal, but Aiden Savory was disappointed not to double Farsley’s lead.

Leeds’ best chance of the first half fell to Clark Odour, and he had a second opportunity later.

But it was the Celts who finished the first half strongest, with substitute Ross Daly and Paddy Miller both going close to adding a second.

After the interval, there were some half-chances for both sides. However, Farsley continued to shade possession.

Tonight Silsden are back in action for a second midweek friendly.

The Cobbydalers make the short trip into Lancashire to take on Burnley United, just two days after visiting Campion.

Eccleshill United have arranged another game as they have added a home game against Tadcaster Albion tonight after they missed out on a fixture against a Guiseley XI.

The Eagles were hoping to host the Lions next Wednesday but, after a very busy pre-season schedule, Guiseley decided to make Saturday’s trip to Curzon Ashton their last warm-up match.
