GUISELEY manager Mark Bower says Jake Lawlor is destined for the Football League.

The former Harrogate Railway midfielder has penned a new two year deal with the Lions but is also attracting attention from full-time clubs.

Bower, who is busy preparing his men for a second consecutive season in the National League, said: "I have no doubt that Jake is a player who will play in the Football League one day and, hopefully, while he is on his way, he can help us along the way.

"He has made great progress in the past three seasons and grown into one of our most important players."

Lawlor's versatility is one of his greatest attributes and Bower has employed the 25-year-old in both midfield and the centre of defence.

“When we first took over, it looked like he was heading out of the club," said Bower, who replaced Steve Kittrick as manager three years ago. "But we recognised his potential. Jake thrived on being given the opportunity and has now become a player who is on the radar of Football League clubs.

"It's good news to get him tied down and committed and happy to be with us," he said. "We’re delighted he’s signed a new deal and look forward to him continuing his progress with us. I am sure Jake will do well for us this season."

Guiseley, who were beaten by Barnsley in a friendly this week, continue their pre-season schedule with a trip to Hyde United on Tuesday night.

That is followed by fixtures against Leeds United, at Nethermoor on Friday July 22, and a trip to Bradford Park Avenue on Saturday July 23.

"We will try to give every player 90 minutes across the two games next weekend," said Bower. "It's important to work on fitness at this time of the year but things are starting to sharpen up and we are starting to demand a little bit more and increasing the tempo of games and training."

Bower has been running the rule over former Sheffield United and Scunthorpe United defender Marcus Williams and is also in the market for a striker, goalkeeper, and a midfielder.
