SECOND-HALF goals from two of last season’s stalwarts eased Guiseley to a 3-0 win in their opening pre-season game at Northern Counties East League Premier Division outfit Parkgate.

The Lions had confirmed a trio of new arrivals the day before as Ashley Palmer, from newly-promoted National League side North Ferriby United, Javan Vidal, from rivals Wrexham, and Danny East all signed up.

Vidal has had Football League experience with Derby County, Chesterfield and Rochdale, while East was with Grimsby Town last term as they won promotion back into the Football League. He began at Hull City but also played for Northampton Town, Gillingham, Portsmouth and Aldershot.

Lions boss Mark Bower had already signed Michael Rankine and Nicky Clee, with all five new boys playing some part in Saturday’s opener.

Following a goalless first half, Adam Boyes bagged a brace and a late strike from Will Hatfield made it 3-0.

ECCLESHILL UNITED were also in action for the first time in pre-season and they lost a nine-goal thriller 5-4 at home to Garforth Town.

The Eagles also announced striker Marcus Edwards has returned to the club, with Matt Mathers, Alex Cusack and Sam Bradley all joining him in moving from neighbours Albion Sports.

Eagles skipper Andy Cooper netted a first-half equaliser as the NCEL Division One side matched their top-tier counterparts in the opening 45 minutes. Edwards was introduced at the break and he scored Eccleshill’s second equaliser before the visitors raced into a 5-2 lead.

Ashley Preston, who has come through the ranks at United, pulled one back and Edwards ensured a tense finish when he made it 5-4 late on.

Callum Ward, twice, Luke McCrum, Russ Headley and Mitch Hamilton weighed in with the goals for the Leeds-based visitors.
