ILKLEY Rugby Club are celebrating their second sevens tournament success of the summer.

They totally dominated last weekend’s event at Hemsworth, scoring 302 points and conceding just 17 in six matches.

Ilkley followed up their success at Caldy by storming through their group matches and recording wins against Wath 63-0, Upton 41-0 and Rotherham 63-0.

In the quarter-finals they found themselves pitted against Wath again and ran out 61-0 winners.

The semi-finals saw them concede their first points as Doncaster Phoenix had the consolation of scoring a try as they were brushed aside 33-5.

Ilkley’s final opponent were Skipton and they recorded a comfortable 41-12 success.

This Saturday sees them travelling to Buckinghamshire to compete in the Olney Sevens. Last year they reached the semi-finals before losing to the hosts.

The recent win at Caldy has clinched Ilkley a place in North of England finals of the 24/Sevens Series at West Park Leeds’ Bramhope headquarters on July 17.

Coach Rhys Morgan said: “The lads were a bit too strong for their opponents at Hemsworth, but things will be a lot tougher at Olney. We found that out last year.”
