ILKLEY Town have received planning permission for the installation of an all-weather pitch.

The £675,000 scheme for a third generation artificial grass pitch is a substantial part of the £2m redevelopment of the Ben Rhydding Sports Club. It will include floodlighting and fencing.

Social loan finance has been boosted by a £15,000 donation from Ilkley & District Round Table, while £10,000 was raised from the recent club ball.

Club chairman Richard Giles said: “Receiving planning permission is a major development in our plan to drive this project forward.

“The new all-weather pitch will be a real community asset, used by Ilkley Grammar School as well as all 30 Ilkley Town teams. It will help us to provide high-quality football provision for more people in the town including more girl’s teams, disability football and walking football for those over 50.

“This really is an excellent opportunity for our club. An amazing prize is now within our grasp and I am sure the club will all push hard to secure this a fabulous asset for the next generation of Ilkley Town footballers.”
