ALISTAIR and Jonny Brownlee will be hoping to make home advantage count when Leeds stages its first World Series Triathlon race on Sunday.

The Bramhope brothers, who won Olympic gold and bronze medals respectively at London in 2012, will do battle again with world champion Javier Gomez.

For once Jonny will be sporting the golden number one as he looks to improve on his second place at Cape Town and bronze at Gold Coast.

For Alistair the race presents him with a chance to test his fitness ahead of the Rio Olympics.

His only World Series race this year since recovering from ankle surgery, saw him come 36th at Gold Coast.

Alistair, speaking after the announcement that he and Jonny will be part of the Great Britain triathlon team for the Olympics, said: “It is going to be great to race in Leeds and it will let people see what a top triathlon is like.

“It is an honour to be racing in our home town.”

Gomez is entering the World Series for the first time in 2016. His most recent outing was the Lisbon ETU European Championships which he won.

All three have not lined up against one another since the 2014 Edmonton Grand Final.

In the last two seasons, the three have raced together five times, with Alistair winning three times. Another win would do wonders for his confidence.

Two more Spaniards, Mario Mola and Fernando Alarza have been dominating the World Series and will be pushing for further honours.

It should make for compelling watching as Leeds looks to follow up its magnificent staging of the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014 with another great sporting show.

Roundhay Park is where the swimming and cycling will take place and there will be free spectator viewing.

There will also be free spectating areas in the City Centre for the run which concludes the race, at Briggate and Victoria Gardens.

Just like the Tour de France there will be street entertainment and activities.

The elite men’s race concludes the two days of activities on Sunday and starts at Roundhay Park at 3.45pm. Before that, the elite women race at 1pm.
