Guiseley took a huge step towards retaining their place in the National League next season with a 3-1 win at home against play-off hopefuls Wrexham tonight.

The Lions raced into a 3-0 lead inside the opening 26 minutes, with Oli Johnson breaking the deadlock before Adam Boyes added a brace. The Welsh club hit back through Sean Newton in the second half but the win put Guiseley five points clear of the drop zone.

Farsley Celtic ripped hosts Droylsden apart in the second half to win their Evo-Stik Division One North clash against the strugglers 4-0 after a goalless first half. Lewis Nightingale bagged a brace with James Knowles and Paddy Miller both on target.

There was a victory for Brighouse Town in the same division as they edged a seven-goal thriller 4-3 at Clitheroe. Town’s Danny Facey opened the scoring and wrapped it up with Chris Fisher and Ryan Hall also netting.

The home side’s scorers were Louis Mayers (two) and Sefton Gonzales as the lead fluctuated.

Tomorrow night sees Bradford Park Avenue trying to increase the three-point gap between themselves and the drop zone in the National North.

It will be the third of four games in eight days for Bradford but it will be their best opportunity to earn a victory.

Darren Edmondson’s men lost their first two fixtures in this busy period but visitors Corby Town are rock bottom. Edmondson will be hoping to have first choice keeper Jon Stewart back after he has missed the last three games with a back injury. All three games ended in defeat for Avenue.
