Whitkirk Wanderers 3 Ilkley Town 0
ILKLEY Town saw their West Yorkshire League Division One promotion hopes take a blow when they were beaten by fellow challengers Whitkirk.
In awful conditions, Whitkirk took the lead in the first 15 minutes and to compound the situation James Wilson left the field injured forcing Ilkley had to re-shuffle with Adam Davey slotting in at centre back.
Ilkley responded with some good possession and creating some half chances but failed to trouble the Wanderers goalkeeper.
Despite having more of the ball it was Whitkirk who added to their tally 15 minutes into the second half, when a cross was turned in from close range.
Ilkley made changes to try get back into the game with James Mackie making his first team debut. A few half chances were created but then the home team sealed their 3-0 victory with a splendid strike into the top corner with only ten minutes remaining.
Town will be hoping to pick themselves up for their first appearance in the quarter finals of the West Riding Challenge Cup Saturday against Pool at Ben Rhydding (2pm).
