ILKLEY will be looking to continue their climb up the National Three North table when they visit Stockport on Saturday.

A third-successive away victory would continue the momentum they have had since the start of the new year.

Head of rugby Rhys Morgan views last Saturday’s hard-earned 28-20 win at Billingham as “one of the most important results of the season.”

He said: “The team adapted well to the difficult conditions to beat a side that has won at our place earlier in the season.

“We have won a couple of away games on the bounce at Burnage and now Billingham, and we are going in the right direction.

“I was pleased that our line-out functioned well, our defence was aggressive and we scored some good tries. It was an important result because it showed that we can come away to tough places and win.”

The result did come at a cost though. Forwards coach Nathan Jones suffered a head injury and will miss the trip to Stockport while stand-in skipper Nick Carolan picked up an injury and is doubtful for Saturday’s game.

Morgan is delighted with the work ethic of his squad. He said: “There was a great turn out at training on Tuesday again and that is enabling us to do quality work.

“I have always maintained that consistency in training leads to consistency in selection and that also brings better results on the pitch.”

One of the aspects of the Billingham game that impressed Morgan was the way his team coped with the three yellow cards they received. At one point they were down to 13 men.
