GUISELEY boss Mark Bower is adamant his side can head to Tranmere Rovers in confident mood on Saturday as they seek to bounce back from successive heavy defeats.

The Lions were beaten 5-0 at Cheltenham last Tuesday before losing 4-1 at home to Eastleigh at the weekend.

Yet Bower is not overly concerned as his side make the daunting trip to face a Tranmere side rated among the favourites to win promotion.

The Wirral outfit are currently in mid-table, and Bower has no fears about the test at Prenton Park.

He said: “Tranmere are probably the biggest club in the league and their form has been a bit up and down.

“They’ve had some good results and some pretty disappointing ones as well.

“They probably expect to be a bit higher up the league than they currently are, but we’ll go there and play with a bit of confidence.

“Even when we lost 3-0 at Forest Green and 5-0 at Cheltenham, we had spells when we had decent possession and created chances. We’ve got to do that and make sure that we keep the back door shut and restrict their chances.

“When you’re playing against the likes of Cheltenham and Eastleigh, all the odds are stacked against you.

“We’ve got to take these last two defeats on the chin, keep doing the right things and be as positive as we possibly can.

“We need to try and get a result at Tranmere and make sure this run doesn’t go on too long.”

The good news for Guiseley, who have been hit badly by injuries, is that defender Adam Lockwood is available again after suspension and midfielder Will Hatfield is edging closer to full fitness.

Rob Atkinson is set to remain sidelined for another fortnight at least with a hamstring strain but midfielder Oliver Norburn made his debut in Saturday’s defeat to Eastleigh.

Norburn, 23, lists Leicester City, Bristol Rovers and Plymouth Argyle among his former clubs.

Bower said: “We brought him in to bolster the numbers but he’s got a bit of quality about him as well.

“It’s initially a non-contract arrangement but he’s been in the Football League for the past few years and it’s a move that suits both parties.”

“If he likes us and we like him, we can look at it again a bit further down the line.”
