GUISELEY boss Mark Bower has paid tribute to Anthony Dudley following his match-winning debut and has set his sights on a second successive home win this weekend.

The Bury forward joined the Lions on a one-month loan deal last Friday and made an instant impression with a deadly double in last Saturday’s 2-0 home win over Welling.

Now the 19-year-old, who first came to Guiseley's attention when he hit a hat-trick for Bury in a 6-2 FA Youth Cup win over the Lions two years ago, will be aiming to add to his tally in Saturday's re-arranged National League clash with Barrow at Nethermoor.

Dudley found the net just nine minutes into his first Guiseley appearance when he collected Ryan Toulson’s pass to fie home from a tight angle for a ninth-minute opener.

And when Welling failed to deal with a searching Gavin Rothery pass, Dudley was on hand to double the Lions’ lead two minutes before the break.

The result marked Guiseley’s first win and first clean sheet since the victory at Braintree Town a month ago.

Bower said of Manchester-born Dudley: “Anthony’s a player who came very highly recommended to us from a trusted person, so we went in a little bit blind with him.

“I’ve seen bits of him before and we are obviously short in that area of the pitch, but he came in and filled in really well for us.

“There was real composure in his finishes and they were two terrific goals.

“Those kind of chances in previous games have been flying wide or over the bar.

“But they went in this time and gave us a real platform to win the game.

“Getting in front in the game and getting an early goal just made a massive difference to us.

“The lads have been a little bit low recently, with how things have gone and us probably not getting the results we have deserved.

“To get in front was a real boost and I don’t think we were outstanding but really disciplined, well organised and restricted them to very little.

“As the second half wore on, we looked very comfortable.

“Yes, we conceded possession of the ball to them for the majority but being in front allows you to do that and catch them on the break.

“We probably had the three best chances to score another goal in the second half.”

Bower saw a side made up largely of fringe players knocked out the County Cup on Tuesday in a 2-1 defeat at Silsden.

Liam Dickinson, Tom Craddock and Danny Hall gained some game-time and Bower remains on the look-out for more new recruits.

The Lions chief has now set his sights on another home win and beating Barrow on Saturday and backing up the victory over Welling.

He added: “I think we broke a duck earlier in the season when we got a point there.

“We never seem to get a result there, so it would be nice to put back-to-back home wins together again like we did earlier in the season.

“It can make a massive difference to your position and Barrow are a team who are not far above us in the league and one that ideally we would like to reel in and climb above.

“It just made sense to switch it from the Tuesday night to a Saturday for the players and the supporters – for everyone really.

“I know Darren well enough and asked him if he would be up for the possibility of doing it, which they were.

“After Barrow, we’ve got Cheltenham, Eastleigh and Tranmere, which are going to be tricky games, so I think both clubs this weekend will look at playing each other as a real opportunity to get some points on board.

“If we can take a lot of the shape, discipline and determination that the lads showed against Welling, then we’ve got every chance of getting another result. Hopefully there will be a new face to add to the squad.”
