Ben Rhydding 1 Sheffield Bankers 0

BEN Rhydding men’s first team squad has been training hard since June and this has been rewarded with a fine performance against Sheffield Bankers, who play in the league above them.

A win meant that Ben Rhydding claim the Yorkshire Cup and should have huge confidence as they begin their league campaign at Lincoln on Saturday.

Rhydding are aiming to bounce back into North Premier League after the disappointment of relegation last season.

Spectacular goalkeeping from the talented, Will Rutter meant that Rhydding kept a clean sheet despite Bankers’ best efforts and a series of impressive corners.

Neil Sugden was outstanding at the back and set the tone for a formidable team effort in which Connor Dowley Ross McMilllan and Callum Franks all impressed.

Junior International, Matthew Ramshaw worked tirelessly to create significant passages of play and had an influential role that belies his tender years.

Matty Bairstow was influential in every Rhydding attack, being responsible for five of the seven key circle outcomes. It is unsurprising therefore that it was Bairstow that scored the goal for Rhydding in the first few minutes of the game, timing his run beautifully to deflect a ball in from skipper, Will Musgrave to give Rhydding a lead they were able to protect.
