Seldom has the last day of the Aire-Wharfe League season thrown up more tension-filled head-to-heads with so much at stake.

Division One leaders Beckwithshaw host defending champions Otley, the side only six points behind them, to decide this year’s title.

Skipton entertain Pool, with the winner joining Horsforth in the top flight next year, and at the bottom of Division Two, Tong Park Esholt face Knaresborough one of the sides they have an outside chance of overhauling to avoid relegation.

While in Division Three, leaders Addingham have a tough match against fifth placed Hall Park, second-placed Olicanian have a slim nine-point advantage over opponents New Rover, while third-placed Calverley will be concerned that the toss of a coin could deny them the chance of bonus points that would help them go up.

Otley led the table for most of the season but were unable to shake off Beckwithshaw and a surprise defeat by North Leeds three weeks ago saw them drop into second place.

Now they have to get seven points more than their rivals in Saturday's showdown to snatch the title.

They showed they are capable of doing that when the sides met earlier in the season, James Davies and Ricky Halloran bowling out Beckwithshaw for 182 and Ben Morley cracking 112 in 100 balls to clinch victory by a 12-point margin.

But no-one can underestimate a team with in-form batsmen like Alexis Twigg and Ben Quick and, perhaps more importantly, the lethal attack provided by Yasar Ali and Istikhar Hussain.

The rest of Division One can relax and enjoy the afternoon.

Steeton travel to Collingham, looking to avenge a one-wicket defeat earlier, while Ilkley, finally free from relegation concerns, are at North Leeds.

Rawdon entertain Burley, hoping for a victory to take them into the top half of the table, while the two relegated clubs, Guiseley and Follifoot, face each other, no doubt hoping to put down a marker for next year’s confrontations.

Skipton and Pool, just a point apart, go into their decider on the back of heavy defeats, Skipton being skittled out for 78 by Thackley and Pool falling to relegation-threatened Harden.

Skipton came out on top when they met earlier, Shahid Nadeem and Gary Owens turning the game with three wickets in as many overs with only one run added when Pool looked on course for victory.

Tong Park Esholt’s chances of avoiding joining Green Lane in relegation are extremely slim.

They need to win and take full bonus points, while stopping opponents Knaresborough taking more than one or hope that Ben Rhydding can beat Harden and deny them more than two bonus points.

Horsforth round off a triumphant season with a home match against Illingworth, Thackley travel to Adel. while Green Lane, relegated by a massive points deduction, travel to Colton, who have just missed the chance of promotion for the second year in a row.

The top of Division Three is so tight that even a seasoned bookie would have problems calling the odds on which of the top four clubs will go up.

Addingham are on 271 points, five points ahead of Olicanian, with Calverley a point further back and New Rover just in touch on 257.

Addingham, who have been out of the top two only three times all season, face a tricky match against Hall Park.

It brings them up against the attack of Jonathan Postle and James Carlill, two bowlers in touching distance of 50 wickets for the season.

Olicanian and New Rover scrap it out with one eye on what is happening at lowly Bardsey, where Calverley are the visitors.

Calverley have been the form side in recent weeks but, as they found last week when crushing Upper Wharfedale, a side which bowls first and skittles the opponents, thus denying themselves the chance of batting bonus points, can lose ground on their rivals.

Winning the toss could be the difference between Calverley going up or finishing third for the second year in a row.

Elsewhere, Menston travel to Alwoodley, with Charlie Parker looking to reinforce his place as the league’s leading wicket-taker, Bolton Villas are at Old Modernians and Silsden have a last chance to break their duck when they travel to Upper Wharfedale.
